Up until now, I've never tried to properly address my blackheads. I've never tried any special cleansers marketed for removing blackheads or even the Biore pore strips. Once upon a time I did use white glue for my own DIY pore strips which was a complete fail LOL That experience pretty much turned me off from experimenting with anything else which was fine because my blackheads were never particularly problematic. When I saw Youtuber, StyleSuzi, review and demo the My Scheming Blackhead Removal mask set I was instantly sold by how effective it was. Although my blackheads may not be particularly prominent, my nose does get pretty oily and the pores located there are fairly large so I expected them to be fairly gunked up too.
The set comes with 3 components: the softener, the carbon mask, and the essence (all of which are labelled). I'll be discussing each while providing step by step instructions on how to use this mask.
Prior to dipping into the kit, ensure that you are starting with a clean slate. Remove any makeup and/or products from your face and use your cleanser of choice. Once you've dried off your face you can move on to Step 1.

Note that the instructions accompanying the kit are almost entirely in Chinese but I mostly followed StyleSuzi's process while supplementing with information I researched online. The purpose of the softener is to "soften" or break down the accumulated debris and oils in your pores so it'll be easier for the carbon mask to penetrate and extract during Step 2. Apply the softener and wait 8 minutes. You only receive 20ml of product and so the eye dropper tip comes in handy for controlling the amount you want to dispense. A little goes a long way! The softener has the appearance of a clear watery liquid with a slight fruity fragrance. I dispensed a couple droplets which I massaged over my problem areas. As you massage the product in, it dries quickly to a slight sticky texture before eventually drying matte. Over the course of the 8 minutes I noticed that wherever I applied the softener did feel softer to the touch as well. After the wait, wash the softener off and dry your face off. Suzi actually left her face sopping wet but I find that that isn't conducive for Step 2.

The first time I tried the mask I left my skin damp after rinsing off the softener but I found that doing so diluted the carbon mask when I tried to spread it on. As a result, it was more difficult to layer on properly. Although it was a tad too runny for my liking, the mask will still perform and you'll still manage to peel it off even with a thin layer applied. At any rate, it's up to you where and how much you need to apply the black goo. Don't worry about the product drying up too quickly - you actually have a comfortable working time before the mask starts to harden. Upon application, I noticed right away that the mask was drawing out the crap trapped in my pores. If you look closely you'll see little bumps which have materialized on the surface of the mask. Allow 15-20 minutes for the mask to dry before it's ready to be peeled off.
After the wait, you can start to tease the corners of the mask off. Suzi suggested that rather than peeling the mask from the sides, peel upwards (ie. starting from the base of your nose and lift towards your hairline).
As you can see, there are some fairly sizeable bits that were pulled. It's really fascinating and repulsive at the same time lol You can then rinse off the remnants of the mask before applying Step #3: the essence.

The essence is meant to help tighten your pores and to heal them after pulling the gunk out.
After using this mask set my nose definitely felt much cleaner, softer to the touch, but there was also a slight tight feeling as well. This is likely because all the sebum was sucked from my pores.
- Verdict -
I'm very pleased with the My Scheming Blackhead Removal mask set. It certainly lives up to the hype and I'll continue to be using it in the future!
